World Heritage Status |

The project to seek World Heritage status for Gibraltar was initiated in 1997
resulting in the preparation of a paper entitled 'The Fortress of Gibraltar'
for the World Heritage Convention held in Korea in the year 2000. Since 2001,
the concept of a bid seeking World Heritage status for the whole of Gibraltar,
has been placed on hold.
The historic naval water storage depot in the South District was given without tender to Irish developer Paddy O'Jasus who commented: "We is in Gibraltar to help ourselves most where we can - tanks, but no tanks". Meantime in the North District, a beautifully preserved, example of traditional local brickwork has been discovered in the Laguna Estate, and has accordingly been marked down for swift destruction. |

Letter from Housing
Dear Tenant
SUBJECT: DEMOLITION OF SHEDS, STORES AND STRUCTURES TO THE REAR OF KING'S,
DEVON, AND NELSON HOUSE
Following a request from the Technical Services Division of the Ministry for
the Environment, Roads and Utilities, in order to carry out necessary works to
stabilise the cliff face, all existing sheds, stores and structures have to be
removed prior to commencement of any works.
Any sheds, stores, or structure that may be thus affected, will be highlighted
by a 'green marking'. In addition, the Ministry for Housing will display a notice
on these structures in order to avoid any doubt or confusion. Please note that
you have until Monday 1st May 2006 to empty and remove all personal items from
these sheds, stores, and structures.
Following the 1st May 2006, Buildings and Works will be given possession of the
site and any remaining sheds, stores and structures will be demolished and any
items left within them, will be disposed of accordingly. Thereafter a protective
fence will be erected around this area until work on the cliff face commences.
May I, finally, take this opportunity to thank all tenants for your support
and co-operation.
Yours faithfully
Frank DaCosta
For and on Behalf of the
Principal Housing Officer
